About the Author of the Introduction to the Sculpture at the Missouri Botanical Garden

George McCue was born in Lipscomb, Texas, in 1910. After graduation from the University of Missouri School of Journalism, Columbia, he was reporter and editor on several Missouri newspapers and the Associated Press. From 1943 until retirement in 1975 he was a staff member of the St. Louis Post Dispatch, the last 19 years as art and urban design critic. He is the author of three editions of The St. Louis Building Art: Two Centuries, an architectural guide published by the St. Louis Chapter, American Institute of Architects, and co-author of a revision (1989). He also is the author of Sculpture City: Public Sculpture and Statuary in St. Louis, sponsored by Laumeier Sculpture Park (1988). He is an honorary member of the American Institute of Architects.
