Bryophyte Names Authority List

The lists below contain names of bryophytes that we interpret as effectively and validly published according to the International Code of Botanical Nomenclature. Nomena nuda and illegitimate names, for example, are not included in the lists.

The lists are almost complete for the names of mosses, but contain only part of the names of hepatics. We would appreciate information on missing names of mosses; the project to capture all hepatic names will take several years to complete.

The names on both lists are arranged alphabetically. Each entry contains the name of the taxon, author(s), year of publication, and an indication of the group that the names belongs to, i.e. mosses - M, hepatics - H. The Family/Genus List contains the names of bryophyte families and genera. The Species List contains names of bryophytes at the rank of species and infraspecies.

Index of Bryophytes 2000- 2004

An index of the citations for names published for bryophytes between January 1, 2001 and December 31, 2004 for hepatics and January 1, 2002 and December 31, 2004 for mosses, synchronizing the nomenclatural indexes for mosses and hepatics. All ranks are included.
