Species: High Endemism

The peak of Kamarkawarai-tepui, one of a chain of relatively small tepuis known as “Los Testigos,” lies along the northern edge of the Gran Sabana in Bolívar state. Here, it rises above an upland meadow dominated by large herbs of the genus Stegolepis in the monocotyledonous family Rapateaceae. All 35 species of Stegolepis are endemic to high peaks or plateaus of the Guayana region.
