The largest genus, Passiflora, is divided into four subgenera. In subgenus Astrophea, we find Passiflora amoena. This tiny tree from French Guiana flowers at the base of its trunk. Astrophea has several examples of trees and many lianas. Bee and hummingbird pollination are common. A few species have five nectar chambers vs. one in most Passiflora. The pollinating bird must enter the flower five times to drink all the nectar.
