Lined up on a twig, a row of adult Ant Lions is surprisingly inconspicuous. We saw quite a few large Ant Lions of the insect order Neuroptera. Some Ant Lion larvae make conical pits in sandy soil and capture insects that fall in.

You can find Ant Lions, Owlflies and also their more common relatives, the Green Lacewings in most parts of the USA.
