Gilg The revision of Dillenia (Dilleniaceae) by Hoogland (1952) recognizes a basic division within the genus on the basis of the presence/absence of an amplexicaul petiolar wing. Both D. triquetra, present in Madagascar and Sri Lanka, and D. ferruginea, endemic to the Seychelles, possess the winged petiole.
