A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
Whip, lash: mastix,-igis (s.f.III Greek), abl. sg. mastige, flagellum,-i (s.n.II), abl. sg. flagello; in Palmae, in some Calamoideae, a climbing organ, a general term for cirrus and flagellum; cirrus, a climbing organ, structurally a whiplike extension of the leaf rachis: cirrus,-i (s.m.II), abl. sg. cirro, q.v.; see flagellum,-i (s.n.II).

whip-like: cirriformis,-e (adj.B), cirrhiformis,-e (adj.B), ‘tendril-like;’ flagelliformis,-e (adj.B), “long, tapered, and supple, like the thong of a whip” (Lindley); stoloniformis,-e (adj.B).

furnished with whips: flagellatus,-a,-um (adj.A).
