vigens,-entis (part.B); compar. vigentior,-ius (adj.B); superl. vigentissimus,-a,-um (adj.A): flourishing, thriving, q.v., growing, q.v.; to be alive, to live; to prosper; to be active [> L. vigeo, 2., to be vigorous, thrive, flourish; to grow or develop well or vigorously, to prosper, bloom, blossom]; see inhabiting;

vigere: present infinitive: to prosper, to develop or grow well, to flourish;

- [moss] si tamen cum ipsa gleba, quae eos protulit transportentur et solo idoneo umbra et humiditate fruenti committantur iterum vigere ramosque novos edere posunt (Brid.), yet if they might be removed with the very clod which produced them, and if united again with their proper soil and enjoying [their proper] shade and humidity, they are able to flourish again and give forth new branches.

viget: third person singular present active indicative, (he, she) it flourishes, thrives;

vigent: third person plural present active indicative, they flourish;

vigeat: third-person singular present active subjunctive, [he/she] it may flourish, thrive, grow, develop;

- species 4 inter tropicos vigentes, 2 in America, 2 in Asia, 1 etiam in Africa, species 4 flourishing amid tropical regions, 2 in America, 2 in Asia, 1 also in Africa.

- [algae] algae currentibus percursis praecipue vigentes (Agardh), algae especially flourishing in fast-moving currents.

- [fungus] utraque var. vernalis: vigens Martio et Aprili, exoleta Maio (S&A), each [of the two] varieties vernal; vigorous in the March and April [sc. months], full grown in the May [month].

- ceterae regionibus tropicis et humidis Americae vigent, the other (species) flourish in tropical and humid regions of America.

- laete vigentem habuimus Junio, we have had it vigorously thriving in June.

- (fungus) capitulum subturbinatum, vigente fungo pellucens, in vetusto opacum marcescit ac delabitur (S&A), the capitulum is nearly turbinate, pellucent when the fungus is fresh [i.e. growing, young], in old age it withers to opaque and falls down.

- (fungus) modo sessile, modo substipitatum; teretiusculum, dum vi vitali vigentissima, turget, dein in formam obcordatam vel obovatam plus minus compressum (S&A), sometimes sessile, sometimes somewhat stalked, roundish, it puffs up as long as it is most flourishing with vital force, finally it is more or less compressed into an obcordate or obovate shape.

- frequentissimum in maxima parte Europae, saltem in regionibus ubi quercus vigent (Nyl.), most frequent in the greatest part of Europe, at least in the regions where oaks flourish.

- [fungi] caespites hujus hinc inde in nemorosis obvii truncos vetustos semiputridos praesertim betulinos incolunt, praecoces, vigentes Junio et seqq. usque in autumnum (S&A), clumps of this here and there encountered inhabiting in groves of woods, very old, half rotted trunks, especially of Betula, early-developing, flourishing in June and the following [months] into autumn.
