Vicinity, neighborhood: vicinia,-ae (s.f.I), abl.sg. vicinia; vicinitas,-atis (s.f.III), abl.sg. vicinitate; propinquitas,-atis (s.f.III) abl.sg. propinquitate, 'vicinity, neighborhood, nearness;'

- species in ruderatis et hominum domiciliorum vicinis inveniuntur, the species on rubbish dumps and in vicinity of the dwellings of men are found.

- zygosporae in vicinitate conjugationum scalariformium effectae, zygospores formed in the vicinity of scalariform conjugations.



vicinus,-a,-um (adj.A): near, neighboring; see adjacent;

- in area fulcro vicina sterili, in the area neighboring the sterile support.

- (moss) flos masculus ad caulis basin in vicinia feminei et quasi plantulam propriam efficiens vel in foliorum axillis gemmiformis (Mueller), the male flower at the base of the stem in the vicinity of the female, and as if producing a special plantlet or bud-like in the axils of the leaves.

NOTE: vicinia,-ae (s.f.I) may also indicate affinity, likeness, resemblance and similarity (Lewis & Short), hence its associated use of the dative, as in the adjectives affinis,-e (adj.B) and similis,-e (adj.B).
