A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

vicem (adv.;acc.sg. of vicis, q.v.) + genitive: instead of, in place of, for; see vice (adv.);

- caulibus vicem fructuum nutrimentum praebentibus, with the stems providing nutriment instead of the fruits.

- partibus fructuum in vicem toti abortivis, with the parts of the fruits, instead of the whole, abortive.

- [Cnidoscolus; Euphorbiaceae] Indumentum. Setis urticantibus exceptis planta omnino glaberrima. Setae magnae 4-5 mm, iuxta basim foliorum in vicem glandularum summipetiolarium dispositae (Casas), Indument. The plant completely glabrous with stinging bristles excepted. The bristles large 4-5 mm, deposited beside the base of the leaves in the place of the summipetiolar glands.

A work in progress, presently with preliminary A through R, and S, and with S (in part) through Z essentially completed.
