A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
verticillaris,-e (adj.B): belonging to, of or pertaining to a verticil or whorl of similar parts;

- [Cladonia verticillaris; lichen] Thallus osseo-albidus simplex (raro tantum unum alterumve emittens), e podetiis consistens scyphophoris scyphis e centro repetito-proliferis margineque verticillatim fìmbriato-divisis, verticillis ita 6-12 ornatus (Nyl.), the thallus bone-white, simple [i.e. unbranched] (rarely sending out only one or two), consisting of scyphophoric [i.e. scyphus bearing] podetia, with the scyphi repeatedly proliferating from the center and verticillately fimbriate-divided on the margin.

- [Cladonia verticillaris; lichen] apothecia pallescentia vel fuscescentia, saepius sat parva, in apicibus fìmbriarum verticillarìum sita; (Nyl.), apothecia rather pale or blackish-brown, more often quite small, situated on the apices or the verticillar fimbriae.
