A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

velut (adv.), veluti (adv.): just as, like, as, as if; to introduce an example, for example;

- zoosporis velut isogametae fungentibus, with zoospores functioning as if isogametes (Stearn).

- folia madore apice caulis veluti in rosulam congesta, leaves in moisture congested as in a rosette.

- folia veluti rosulam minutam sistentia, leaves standing like a minute rosette.

- braceis velut petalla coloratis, with bracts colored as if petals.

- radice foliosa ex qua media veluti malum extuberat, with a foliose root from which middle as an apple swells.

NOTE: in these examples the zoospores are not isogametes, nor is the stem in a rosette; note also in these examples the nouns following 'velut' are in the nominative.

A work in progress, presently with preliminary A through R, and S, and with S (in part) through Z essentially completed.
