A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
velatus,-a,-um (part.A): covered, partially concealed from view, veiled [> L. velo,-avi,-atum, 1.: to cover, cover up, envelop, wrap up, to veil]; see concealed, covered;

- calyx per bracteolas apicales usque ad apicem (98-100%) velatus, the calyx by the apical bractioles covered to the apex (98-100%).

- [Orchideae]stylus columna inclusus, filamentorum tubo adnato velatus (B&H), the style included with the column, covered with the adnate tube of filaments.

Amanita velatipes, with a veil associated with the stipe; not velutipes, q.v.

 

A work in progress, presently with preliminary A through R, and S, and with S (in part) through Z essentially completed.
