.... - mare apertum amant Florideae, rupes tamen a luce et vehementissimo fluxu absconditas precipue inhabitantes; the Florideae love the open sea, yet inhabiting rocks hidden from the light and the most vehement current.
vehemens,-entis (adj.B): violent, vehement, furious; vigorous, powerful; tempestuous, unquiet; comp. vehementior,-ius (adj.A);; superl. vehemtissimus,-a,-um (adj.A); syn. violentus,-a,-um (adj.A); opp. ‘still,’ q.v.; opp. debilis,-e (adj.B), weak, feeble; opp. tranquillus,-a,-um (adj.A), calm, still; see stout, violent;

- mare apertum amant Florideae, rupes tamen a luce et vehementissimo fluxu absconditas precipue inhabitantes; the Florideae love the open sea, yet inhabiting rocks hidden from the light and the most vehement [i.e. powerful] current.

- Hab. ad rupes vehementissimo fluctu irriguatas soleque expositas, it grows on watered rocks in the most vigorous turbulence, exposed to the sun.

- (algae) Hab. inter corallinas aliasque algas ad rupes vehementiori fluxu expositas in limite maris (Agardh), it grows among the corallines and other algae on rocks exposed to the more vigorous current in the boundary of the sea.

- odor in recenti vehemens, penetrans: in languescente debilis (S&A), the odor in fresh [specimen] powerful, penetrating: in withering specimens, feeble.

- Hab. in caespites funiculares dense intricata, e rupibus in summo refluxus limite maris vehementioris dependens (Agardh), Habitat: it grows densely entangled in ropey clumps, depending from rocks in the height of the ebbing at the boundary of the more tempestuous sea.

- [algae] Hab. ad rupes parum demersas lapidesque in sinubus minoribus plerumque vehementíori cúrrente percursis (Agardh), it dwells on rocks slightly submerged and stones in the lesser bays usually passed through by a more powerful current.
