A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
vaginans,-antis (adj.B): sheathing, vaginant; see clasping;

- folia minuta, squamaeformia, amplexicaulia v. vaginantia (B&H), leaves minute, scale-like, stem-clasping or sheathing.

- petiolo basi semivaginante., with the petiole at the base partly sheathing.

- stipulae deciduae, convolutae, folia superiora vaginantes. (B&H),, upper leaves deciduous, convolute, sheathing the upper leaves.

- discus membranaceus, ovarium basimque styli vaginans (B&H), disc membranaceous, sheathing the ovary and the base of the style.

NOTE: there is no classical verb to correspond to the participle form ‘vaginans.’
