A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
Vadum,-i (s.n.II), abl. sg. vado; also vadus,-i (s.m.II), abl. sg. vado: a shallow place in water, a shallow, shoal, ford: a body of water, a sea, stream; the bottom of a body of water, the depths;

- vadum saltum (adj.B), a salt body of water.

- frondes in profundiori mari elongatae 3 - 4 pedales vesiculiferae, in vadis abbreviata semipedales evesiculosae , fronds in the deeper sea elongate, 3-4 feet, vesicle-bearing, in the shallows shortened, one-half foot, without vesicles.
Vadum,-i (s.n.II), abl. sg. vado; also vadus,-i (s.m.II), abl. sg. vado: a shallow place in water, a shallow, shoal: (esp of a shallow place where a river is crossed, a ford; a body of water, a sea, stream; the bottom of a body of water, the depths; = Gk. tenagos,-eos (s.n.III), “shoal-water, shallows, lagoon, whether in the sea or in rivers” (Liddell & Scott); see pool; see stagnum,-I (s.n.II);

- vadum saltum (adj.B), a salt body of water.

- frondes in profundiori mari elongatae 3 - 4 pedales vesiculiferae, in vadis abbreviata semipedales evesiculosae, fronds in the deeper sea elongate, 3-4 feet, vesicle-bearing, in the shallows shortened, one-half foot, without vesicles.

- vadum in flumine efficere, to make a ford in a river.

- [Corchorus]ad cap. B. –Spei prope vadum Salinarum fl. Gariep.” (DeCandolle), on the Cape of Bood Hope near the ford of the salt-works of the river Gariep [i.e. the Orange River].
