A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
Urceolus,-i (s.m.II), abl.sg. urceolo: urceole; “the two confluent bracts of Carex. Any flask-shaped or cup-shaped anomalous organ” (Lindley); “1. a pitcher-shaped organ, as an ascidium; 2. the two confluent bracts of Carex, the utricle [see perigynium,-ii (s.n.II)]; 3. any flask-shaped anomalous organ” (Jackson); an urn-shaped pit [> L. urceus,-i (s.n.II), a pitcher, jug, ewer]; cf. ascidium,-i (s.n.II); see utricle;

- torus floris expansus nunc in conum inversum ovaria in eo semi-immersa gerentem, nunc in urceolum ovaria includentem et stigmatibus coronatum (DeCandolle), the torus of the flower expanded, sometimes into an inversed cone bearing the ovaries half-immersed in it, sometimes enclosing the ovaries into an urceolus and crowned with the stigmas.

The fungus genus Urceolus and other genera: Urceolella, Urceola, the Urceolariomyces.
