A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
uncialis,-e (adj.B): “the twelfth part of a foot, an inch;” 1 inch long; biuncialis,-e, 2 inches long; triuncialis, 3 inches long; semuncialis,-e (adj.B), one-half inch; sesquiuncialis, one and one half inches; subuncialis,-e (adj.B), less than 1 inch; syn. pollicaris,-e (adj.B): 1 inch long; with the thickness of the thumb;

- longitudo in perfectioribus uncialis, latitudo et crassitudo semuncialis fere; length in the more perfect (ones) one inch, the latitude and thickness nearly one half inch.

- cupula uncialis, integra,nec hinc dehiscens, the cupule one inch long, entire, not dehiscing from this place.

- folia raro semunciam excedentia frequentius breviora (F. Mueller), leaves rarely exceding one half inch, more frequently shorter.

- folia adulta fere uncialia (F. Mueller), the adult leaves almost an inch long.

- [fungus] subiculo laevi effuso ( 2 1/2 fere unc. longo , 1 lato) (S&A), with the subicle smooth, spread out (nearly 2 1/2 inches long, 1 wide).

- capitula subglobosa, ut plurimum terminalia foliis involucrata vix uncialia (F. Mueller), the capitula almost globose, mostly terminal, involucrate with leaves, scarcely an inch long.

- foliis semi-sesquiuncialibus, with the leaves one half to one and one half inches [i.e. semi (one half) sesqui (one and one half) -uncialis,-e (adj.B) ‘inch.’
