A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

Uncia,-ae (s.f.I): twelfth part, 1/12 foot, 1 inch, approx. 2.5 cm; same as pollex, q.v.; see inch.

- spicae prima aetate capitatae, dein unciae longitudine (Swartz), the spikes at the beginning of their lives capitate, ultimately 2.5 cm in length.

Abbrev. unc.;

- stipes concolor, adscendens , excentricus , compaclus , solidus , subtomentosus, unc. 1 crassus , 2 fere longus (S&A), the stipe of one color, ascending, off-center, compact, solid, somewhat tomentose, one inch thick almost two long.

A work in progress, presently with preliminary A through R, and S, and with S (in part) through Z essentially completed.
