A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
umbrosus,-a,-um (adj.A): shady, growing in the shade; superl. umbrosissimus,-a,-um (adj.A), the deepest shade;

- in locis umbrosis, in shady places (often the word 'locis' is understood and not written out).

- habitat in argillosis umbrosis Ohionis, it grows in clayey, shady (places) of Ohio.

- planta brunneola vel flavo-rufescens, in umbrosis flavo-virens (Steph.), plants brownish or yellowish-red, in shady places yellow-green.

- in saxis humectatis umbrosis, ad scaturigines, in cacumine montis altissimi Postberg dicti (C. Mueller), on shaded wet stones, in rushing streams, in the highest peak of the mountain called Postberg.

- [fungi] sylvarum amat latebras umbrosissimas humentes foliis putridis obtectas (S&A), it loves the shadiest, moist hiding places of forests covered, with rotten leaves.
