truncatus,-a,-um (part.A): truncate, i.e. ending very abruptly as if cut straight across; with an apex squared at the end; syn. abruptus,-a,-um (adj.A), q.v., abrupt, terminating or ending suddenly, as if broken off, separated, torn off (Kiger & Porter 2001); cf. depresso-truncatus,-a,-um (part.A) = retuse (Jackson) [> L. trunco,-avi,-atum, 1. “to maim, mutilate, mangle, or shorten by cutting off, to cut off, amputate; to strip or cut off leaves” (Lewis & Short)]; see blunt; see retusus,-a,-um (part.A), ‘with a shallow notch at a rounded apex” (Jackson); see blunt; see obtusus,-a,-um (adj.A);

- apex obtusissimus, subtruncatus (S&A), the apex very obtuse, almost truncate.

- carina saepius apice oblique trúncata (B&H), the keel more often at the apex obliquely truncate.

praemorsus,-a,-um (part.A): premorse, as if bitten off; “the same as truncate, except that the termination is ragged and irregular, as if bitten off” (Lindley); cf. succisus,-a,-um (part.A), abruptly broken or bitten off.

NOTE: conico-curtus, shortly and squatly truncate; conico-curtatus, conico-decurtatus, conico-truncatus, strongly convex (i.e. conic) but shortened, cut-away to very flat at the apex, as though cut off or away.
