A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
translucens,-entis (part.B), translucidus,-a,-um (adj.A) clear, transparent, translucid [> L. transluceo, -ere: to shine across; to shine through, show through; to let shine through, to be transparent or translucent (Lewis & Short); cf. transparent;

translucet: third-person singular present active indicative: [he]she] it shines, shines through, is transparent.

- [algae] Quum insuper ipsi siphones obscurissimi sunt translucet in medio tubus centralis nulla materia repletus, unde frondes harum specierum quasi linea hyalina longitudinali notatae, sub lente apparent (Agardh), whenever from above the siphones themselves are extremely dark, the central tube is translucent in the middle, filled with no material, whence the frondes of these species appear under the lens marked as if with longitudinal hyaline lines.

- speculo in speculum translucet imago, an image shines across from a mirror into a mirror.

- membrana vitri modo translucida, a membrane transparent in the manner of glass.

- crystallus translucidus, a clear crystal.

- petalis lineari-punctatis translucentibus, with petals lineari-punctate, translucent.

- costa laminas in mucronem transludicum excedente, with the costa rising above the laminas into a translucid mucro.

somewhat translucent or transparent: pellucidulus,-a,-um (adj.A).

translucent when wet, opaque when dry: hygrophanus,-a,-um (adj.A).
