A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
-tomy (English noun suffix): in Gk. comp. -tomia,-ae (s.f.I), cutting, incision, section; alluding to a cutting operation [> Gk. tomos (s.m.II), a cutting, a cut, a slice, a piece cut off, incision]; see -tomia,-ae (s.f.I), abl. sg. tomia 'cut;'

- anatomy: anatomia,-ae (s.f.I): a dissection.

- anatomia costae strata stereidarum duo exhibens, dissection of the costa exhibits two layers of stereids.

- dichotomia,-ae (s.f.I), dichotomy, a cutting in half, a dividing into two groups or parts.

- trichotomy “probably from (assumed) NL trichotomia, fr. Gk. trichotomein, to trisect, from tricha, threefold, akin to Gk. treis, three + temnein, to cut) a dividing into three parts” WIII.
