A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
-tome (English noun suffix): in Gk. comp. -tomus,-i (s.m.II), abl. sg. -tomo, 'cutting, cut, segmented' [> Gk. tomos (s.m.II), a cutting, a piece cut off, a slice > temnein, to cut WIII]; see -toma,-ae (s.f.I);

- a part, a section of a whole: gonotomus,-i (s.m.II), abl. sg. gonotomo: a gonotome, the portion or part of a somite that participates in gonad formation' (WIII); angiotomus,-i (s.m.II), abl. sg. angiotomo: a segment or unit of the vascular system in the embryo (WIII).

NOTE: generally used in medical terminology.
-tome (adv.): in Gk. comp., see -tomously (adv.).
