A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
Tetraspore, “a spore formed by division of the spore-mother-cell into four parts” (Jackson); (in algae) “a spore produced in a tetrasporangium. In the Dictyotales (Phaeophyta) and in most red algae” (A&H); (in fungi) “one of the spores of a 4-spored basidium [in Hymenomycetes],” as opposed to a dispore, “one of the spores of a 2-spored basidium (Corner, 1948)” (Ainsworth & Bisby): tetraspora,-ae (s.f.I), abl.sg. tetraspora; cf. spore.

Dispore, “one of the spores of a 2-spored basidium (in Hymenomycetes) as opposed to a tetraspore, one of the spores of a 4-spored basidium (Corner, 1948)” (Ainsworth & Bisby): dispora,-ae (s.f.I).

Gemmidium,-ii (s.n.II), abl. sg. gemmidio: a tetraspore (Jackson).

Nemathecium, a kind of fructification on certain red algae, consisting of an external mass of filaments that separate into tetraspores (Wiktionary): nemathecium,-ii (s.n.II), abl.sg. nemathecio.

Tetrachocarpium,-ii (s.n.II), abl. sg. tetrachocarpio: “the quadruple cluster of spores found in some Algals” (Lindley); = tetraspore (Jackson) [> Gk. tetracha (adv.), four-fold + karpos, fruit (Jackson).
