A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
temere (adv.), temeriter (adv.): at random, fortuitously, by chance, by accident; sometimes paired with syn. fortuito (adv.),’ by accident, by chance, casually;’ syn. casu (adv.), forte (adv.);

- folia temere et fortuito cadentia, leaves by chance and accident falling.

- semina elaiosomatibus planis membranaceis temeriter cadentibus instructa, seeds provided with elaiosomes flat membranaceous by chance falling.

- thallus temere acidum efferens, thallus by chance producing acid.

- nomina generica magna copia a Rafinesquio temere proposita, et genera Maderensia Bowdichii certe falsa et nequáquam recognoscenda (B&H), a large multitude of generic names proposed at random [i.e. casually] by Rafinesque, and the Maderensian genera of Bowdich, are certainly false and not at all to be recognized.
