tawny, fulvous, lion-colored, yellow-brown, leochromous: leochromus, -a,-um (adj.A), fulvus,-a,-um (adj.A), q.v., i.e. 'dull yellow with a mixture of gray and brown' (Lindley); ravus,-a,-um (adj.A), isabellinus,-a,-um (adj.A), q.v.; helvenacus,-a,-um (adj.A), pale yellow, yellowish; cervinus,-a,-um (adj.A), of or pertaining to the deer, dark-tawny (the color of a deer); helvus,-a,-um (adj.A), q.v. light bay, pale red, 'the dingy color of oxen;' xuth-, xutho-: in Gk. comp., golden yellow [> Gk. xouthos, golden yellow, akin to xanthos - a color between xanthos and pyrrus, yellowish tawny, dusky]; see brown;

- [lichen] gelatina hymenea iodo non tincta vel obsolete violaceo-colorata (protoplasma thecarum fulvescens) (Nyl.), the hymenial gelatin in iodine not tinted or weakly violaceous-colored (the protoplasm of the thecae somewhat tawny [i.e. yellow-brown]).

- species nova coloniis in CYA crescentibus pallide subbubalinis, in parte aversa fulvis distinguenda, new species distinguished by colonies growing in CYA pale light buff, on reverse part tawny.
