A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
tarde (adv.): slowly, sluggishly, late; with difficulty; compar. tardius (adv.), superl. tardissime (adv.); opp. celeriter (adv.), ‘swiftly;’ see ‘suddenly; see ‘abruptly;’

- citius tardius, sooner or later.

- [fungus] caro pilei stipitisve diffracti citius tardiusve, sed constanter, rubescit (S&A), the broken flesh of the pileus or of the stipe either more quickly or more slowly [i.e. sooner or later], but always becomes red.

- foliis tarde caducis, with leaves caducous late.

- scapi sub anthesi aphylli, pseudobulbum 1-foliatum interdum tardius evolvitur, scapes at anthesis aphyllous, pseudobulb 1-foliate sometimes developing later (more slowly)(sometimes unfolding more slowly).

- carpella indehiscentia v. supra basin tarde circumscisse dehiscentia (B&H), carpella indehiscent or above the base slowly circumscissally dehiscent.

- sepala persistentia vel tarde decidua (B&H), sepals persistent or slowly (late) deciduous.
