A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
tantummodo (adv.), tantum modo (adv. phrase) : merely, only, only so much, solely.; syn. solummodo (adv.), q.v., merely, soley, only; cf. modo (adv.), only, merely;

- laminis tantummodo leviter in petiolum sensim contractis, with the blades merely slightly into the petiole gradually tapered.

- foliis tantummodo unicis, with leaves only one (and no more).

- unicum tantummodo specimen radice descendente fibrilligera praeditum (F. Mueller), only a single specimen provided with a descending fibril-bearing root.

- [lichen] lamina tenuis thalli iodo tantum modo desiccata sanguineo-rubens (Nyl.), the lamina of the thallis thin, with iodine when only a little dried out blood-red-reddening.

non tantummodo ... sed... quoque..., not only... but... also;

- sporis maturis non tantummodo ellipsoideis sed angularibus vel reniformibus quoque, with mature spores not only ellipsoidal but angular or kidney-shaped also.

non tantummodo ... verum etiam..., not only...but actually also...;

- plantae non tantummodo acidum sulphuricum verum etiam acidum aliphaticum efferentes, plants not only sulphuric acid but even aliphatic acid also producing.
