A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
taeni-, taenio-: in Gk. and L. comp., band-like, strap-shaped; -taenia,-ae (s.f.I); -taenium,-ii (s.n.II); -taenius,-a,-um (adj.A), ‘banded;’ see band;

- taenifrons, with band-like fronds; taeniophyllus, with band-like leaves.

- Cryptotaenia DC. Honewort [> Gk. cryptos, hidden, and tainia, a fillet, 'referring to the concealed oil-tubes" Fernald, 1980]; Eurytaenia Torr. & Gray, wide; Polytaenia DC. [> Gk. polys, many, + tainia, a fillet,"alluding to the numerous oil-tubes" (Fernald 1950).

- porphyrotaenius, purple-banded.
