Syllabus,-i (s.m.II), abl.sg. syllabo: list, register; ; LL. cf. Gk. syllambanein [Gk. syllambanO: to bring together or collect into a body, to rally (troops); to put together (as the mouth and eyes of a corpse); to take together, lay hold of, seize, apprehend; to comprehend, comprise; (of the mind) to comprehend, understand; to assist one in a thing, to assist, to help to take hold of a thing, to help, assist (Liddell & Scott) of L. sillybus, label for a book [a parchment tag used to label a papyrus roll, also sittyba = Gk. sittYba)(Glare)], from Gk. sillybos: “a compendium or summary outline of a discourse, treatise, course of study, or examination requirements: a series of abstracts: abstract, epitome; a headnote; eyllabus of errors: a collection of propositions condemned as erroneous by the Roman Catholic Church” (WIII); see compendium,-ii (s.n.II).

Sillybos (s.m.II): “parchment-label appended to the outside of a book” (Liddell & Scott).
