A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
suspensus,-a,-um (part.A): suspended, hung up; supported, propped up (a transitive verb) [> L. suspendo,-pendi,-pensum, 3. to hang, suspend, to hang up; to support, prop up; resting upon, dependent upon; ‘from’ + de, ab, ex + abl.]; cf. dependending;

NOTE: suspended: “hanging up by the side; as many seeds” (Lindley).

- processibus de rachis suspensis, with processes suspended from the rachis

- segmenta in membrana basilari suspensa, the segments suspended on the basil membrane

- loculo e processu dependente semi-2-loculari (B&H), with a locule hanging down from a process semi-2-locular.

- semina immatura oblonga, funiculis liberis tenuissimis suspensa (B&H), immature seeds oblong, suspended with very thin free funiculi.

- semina oo, 2-seriatim superposita, horizontalia v. suspensa (B&H), seeds indeterminate, 2-seriately superimposed, horizontal or suspended.

- semina funiculo longo suspensa (B&H), seeds suspended from a long funiculus.

- ovula in loculis oo, subhorizontaliter suspensa (B&H), ovules in locules indeterminate [in number], somewhat horizontally suspended.

- ovula et semina, ex Spachio, erecta, nos tamen semper suspensa, more Sidae vidimus (B&H), ovules and seeds, according to Spachius, erect, we however view them as always suspended, in the manner of Sida.

- semen sub apice loculi suspensum, seed suspended below the apex of the locule.

- ovulum a funículo basilari v. rarius e latere loculi infra medium suspensum (B&H), ovule suspended below the middle from a basal funiculus or more rarely from the side of the locule.

- semina in loculis solitaria, prope apicem anguli superioris suspensa (B&H), seeds solitary in the locules, suspended near the apex of the upper angle.
