A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
Sunrise, sunup, daybreak, dawn; morning: antelucanum,-i (s.n.II), abl. sg. antelucano, dawn; diluculum,-i (s.n.II), abl. sg. diluculo, daybreak, dawn, the twilight of dawn, morning twilight;

- prima (adj.A) lux [lux,-lucis (s.f.III)], abl. sg. prima luce, first light, daybreak.

- ab ortu ad occasum solis, from the risen to the down-fallen sun, i.e. from east to west, day-long.

- ortus (s.m.IV) occasusque (s.m.IV) solis, the rising and setting of the sun.

- antemeridialis,-e (adj.B), antemeridianus,-a,-um (adj.A): before midday or noon; horae antemeridiales, the hours before noon

antelucanus,-a,-um (adj.A): [lux, lucis (s.f.III)] before light, before daylight, before dawn;

- ex antelucano tempore ad vesperem, from the time of dawn to evening.

antelucio (adv.) before daybreak, before dawn;

- caulis antelucio crescere, stem growing before daybreak.

anteluculo (adv.): before daybreak, predawn;

floribus anteluculo aperientibus, with the flowers opening before daybreak.
