A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
Sun: sol, solis (s.m.III), abl.sg. sole; in Gk. comp. heli-, helio-, q.v.; see occidens;

- oriens sol, the rising sun, the east.

- occidens sol, the setting sun, the west.

- lux solis, sunlight (lux, lucis s.f.III).

- plantae quum sub sole habitantes rubrescentes, plants when living in the sun becoming red.

- lumina solis radiantia, the shining lights of the sun; sidera radiantia, the stars shining.

- ab orto usque ad occidentem solem, from the east (risen) to the west (setting sun).

- ab ortu ad occasum solis, from the risen to the down-fallen sun, i.e. from east to west, day-long.

- Hab. ad rupes vehementissimo fluctu irriguatas soleque expositas, it grows on watered rocks in the most vigorous turbulence, exposed to the sun.

- Hab. in scrobiculis parum profundis, unda saepe superfusis soleque maxime expositis utriusque maris (Agardh), in rather deep trenches, often inundated by the tide and exposed to the maximum sun of both seas.

- heliophyllus (adj.A), sun-loving, growing in sunny places, photophilous.

- heliophyton,-i (s.n.II) a plant thriving in or tolerating full sun.

of or relating to the sun; growing in sunny places; solaris,-e (adj.B).
sun-loving: heliophilus,-a,-um (adj.A), photophilus,-a,-um (adj.A), solaris,-e (adj.B).
sun-loving plant, heliophyte: heliophyton,-i (s.n.II), abl. sg. heliophyto.
sun, of or relating to the sun; growing in sunny places; solaris,-e (adj.B).
