A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
subtended: suffultus,-a,-um (part.A), q.v., subtentus,-a,-um (part. A + abl.); see supported;

- crista marginalis laciniis e silica compositis subtenta, marginal ridge subtended by flaps of silica.

- dyade quaque per bracteam superimponentem subtenta, with each dyad subtended by an overlapping bract.

- peristomii dentes erecti membrana basilari suffulti, peristome teeth erect, subtended by a basal membrane.

- fructus sepalis concrescentibus reliquias stigmatis gerentibus subtentus, fruit subtended by the grown-together sepals bearing the remnants of the stigma.

- semina solitaria, rarius 2-4, arillo cupulato integro v. lacero suffulta (B&H), seeds solitary, more rarely 2-4, supported by a cupulate aril, entire or lacerated.

- seminibus carúncula carnosa suffultis (F. Mueller), with the seeds subtended by a fleshy caruncle.
