A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
subequal, subequaling, somewhat less than equal, not quite equal: subaequalis,-e (adj.B), subaequus,-a,-um (adj.A), subaequans,-antis (part.B + obj. accusative); see equal, unequal; see aequans,-antis (part.B); cf. irregular;

- petala 6, patentia, plana, subaequalia (B&H), petals 6, spreading, flat, somewhat unequal.

- stipes castaneus laminam subaequans, stipe chestnut brown almost equalling the blade.

- petalis quinque subaequalibus, with the five petals subequal.

- tubulis antherae thecas subaequantibus (non circa dimidium antherae aequantibus), with the tubules of the anther subequalling the thecas (not around half of the anther equalling).
subequal-: in L. comp. subaequi-

- subaequiflorus, with somewhat unequal flowers; subaequifolius, with slightly unequal leaves; subaequilobus, with subequal lobes; subaequipes, with somewhat unequal feet or stalks; subaequisectus, cut into rather unequal divisions; subaequisepalus, subequal-sepaled; subaequistipulatus, with subequal stipules.
