-stylis,-idis (s.f.III; not an adjective): in Gk. comp. meaning -styled, having a style; also having a small supporting stalk, such as a hypha [> dim. of Gk. stylos (s.m.II), a (supporting or bearing) pillar; a post, pale, a ship beam or mast]; see -styled;

NOTE: the endings are nouns, hence, in epithets they are nouns in apposition to the generic name; see 'apposition, noun in.' - distylis, with two styles; leptostylis, with slender styles; leucostylis, with white styles or style; macrostylis, with a large style or styles; microstylis, with small styles; monostylis, with one style; oligostylis, with few styles; polystylis, with many styles; rhopalostylis, with club-shaped style.

Note: Osmorhiza longistylis (Torr.) DC., ‘long-styled’ [> L. longus,-a,-um (adj.A), ‘long’ indicates the ending -stylis may be used in both Latin and Greek compounds.

Eustylis,-idis (s.f.III); Nemastylis,-idis (s.f.III): filamenta Nemastylidis, the filaments of Nemastylis; Rhopalostylis, with club-shaped styles.

Bulbostylis (Kunth) C. B. Clarke [ > L. bulbus, bulb and stylus, style.], B. ciliatifolia, B. coarctata.

Fimbristylis Vahl, > L. "fimbria, a fringe, and stylus, style, the latter being fringed with hairs in the genuine species" (Fernald 1950).

- habitus Carpodeti et Chorystylidis (B&H), the habit of Carpodetus and Chorystylis.

- (excludenda C. punctata ad Nemastylidem referenda), C. punctata to be excluded, to be referred to Nemastylis.

- in Chlamydostylibus plerisque filamenta in tubum longiusculum cylindraceum connata (B&H), in Chlamydostylis and many [sc. species or genera] the filaments are connate into a rather long cylindrical tube.

- in Chlamydostylide tenui antherae Nemastylidis, in caeteris speciebus potius Eustylidis, in Chlamydostylis tenuis, the anthers are of Nemastylis, in the other species rather of Eustylis.
