A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
stuppeus,-a,-um (adj.A; also stupeus), stupposus,-a,-um (adj.A; also stuposus): stupose, consisting of, bearing or covered with tufted or matted tow-like hairs or filaments; made of tow, q.v.; in fungi, used of tissue formed from hyphae which are not gelatinized; made or consisting of tow, q.v.; see tufted;

- substantia stuposo-fibrosa, e filamentis longiusculis evidenter contexta, the flesh tow-like-fibrous, evidently constructed from rather long filaments.

- [Sphaerophoron; lichen] medulla alba stuppea, cortice corneo incrustato saepe nitidiusculo (Nyl.), with the medulla white, tow-like [i.e. of tufted or matted tow-like hairs or filaments; made of tow], with the cortex hoen-yellow, encrusted, often somewhat nitid.

- [Hippocratea] Hippocrateae ovatae, spermodermium et cotyledones intus singulari modo filis innumeris tracheiformibus stuposi! [sic] quod etiam in Calypsois [sic] suae pericarpio vidit cl. Petit-Thouars. (DeCandolle), plants of the Hippocrateae ovate, the spermodermium and cotyledons inside stupose! [i.e. matted with tow-like filaments] in a singular manner with innumerable tracheiform threads, which the well-known Petit-Thouars saw even in Calypso’s own pericarp [i.e. in the pericarp of Calypso itself].
