strictus,-a,-um (part.A): compar. strictior,-ius (adj.B), superl. strictissimus,-a,-um (adj.A): strict, drawn close together, congested; very upright or erect, very straight and rigid; “very upright, or very straight” (Lindley); “close or narrow and upright, very straight” (Jackson); “very straight and upright” (Fernald 1950), “erect, upright” (Stearn 1996); “of upright erect habit, as a stem; being straight and not lax or drooping, as a strict inflorescence” (WIII) [> L. stringo, strinxi, strictum, 3. to draw tight together, to bind, tie; to graze, to lightly touch; strictus,-a,-um (part.A), drawn together, close, tight, as a knot; rigid, severe, strict]; opp. laxus,-a,-um (adj.A): lax, flaccid, loose, with parts distinct and apart from one another or in an open or loose arrangement; see erect; see rigid;

other meanings: pruned, clipped, stripped off, plucked; bound, tied, drawn tightly together, hence ‘close, tight;’ drawn tight together; rigid, severe, strict; touched lightly, grazed; affected, injured;
