A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
stolonifer,-fera,-ferum (adj.A), stoloniferus,-a,-um (adj.A): stoloniferous, bearing stolons or runners; “bearing stolons; (in bryophytes) “with slender, elongate branches with reduced or vestigial leaves throughout” (Magill 1990);(of mycelium), as distinguished from ‘rhizomatous’ (Arnaud, 1910), bearing stolons on the outside of the host or substrate and sending haustoria or rhizoids within” (S&D); cf. sarmentosus,-a,-um (adj.A), stoloniferous, producing long runners; cf. flagelliformis,-e (adj.B);

NOTE: in bryophytes, a branch, often etiolated, may be a microphyllous stolon, that is, bearing reduced or vestigial leaves. - herbae, rhizomate perenni, interdum stoloniferae (B&H), herbs, with a perennial rhizome, sometimes bearing stolons.

- herbae basi perennantes, saeissime stolonifera (B&H), herbs perennating at the base, most often stolon-bearing.

- media caespitis erectìuscula, exteriora saepe recurvae quasi stolonifera, with the middle of the head somewhat erect, the outer parts often recurved as if bearing stolons.

- Dictyota repens frondibus a radice repente stolonifera, Dictyota repens, stolon-bearing with the fronds from a creeping root.
