A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
scrotiformis,-e (adj.B): pouch-shaped; “pouch-shaped: hollow, and resembling a little double bag, as the spur of many Orchids” (Lindley); ("> scrotum, a pouch + form, shape) pouch-shaped” (Jackson);

- [Haemaria; Orchideae] labellum basi columnae affixum eique saepius breviter adnatum, ungue a basi scrotiformi v. 2-gibba patente concavo ad latera interdum 2-auriculato, lamina divaricato-2-loba (B&H), the labellum attached to the base of the column and to this more often shortly adnate, with the claw out from the base scrotiform [i.e. pouch-shaped] or 2-gibbous [i.e. with two pouch-like enlargements], spreading, concave, at the sides sometimes 2-auriculate, with the lamina divaricately 2-lobed.

- Labellum (inferum) basi columnae brevissime adnatum, a basi patente ventricoso-scrotiformi intus 2-callosa incurvo-ascendens; lobi laterales latiusculi, erecti, medius unguiculatus, dilatato-2-lobus (B&H), labellum (lower) very shortly adnate to the base of the column, spreading out from the base, ventricose-scrotiform, inside 2-thickened [i.e. with two hardened thickenings], incurved-ascending; the lateral lobes somewhat wide, erect, the middle one unguiculate, dilatedly 2-lobed.

- COELOGLOSSUM species continet 5 asiáticas parvifloras, Peristylum cum Platanthera arcte connectentes, calcare in una specie brevi scrotiformi in caeteris tenui (B&H), Coeloglossum contains 5 small flowered Asiatic species, closely linking together Peristylum with Platanthera, with the spur in one species short, scrotiform [i.e. protruding and pouch-shaped], thin in the rest.

- [Orchidaceae] Calcar supra basim cylindraceum circiter 1.5 mm in diametro, ad basim in pariete postico in sacculum scrotiformem productum; sacculus 1 mm longus; the spur above the cylindric base around 1.5 mm in diameter, prolonged at the base on the postical wall into a scrotiform saccule; the saccule 1 mm long.

Erythrodes scrotiformis, Habenaria scrotiformis, Lepanthes scrotifera, Physaria scrotiformis O’Kane, "pouch-shaped, referring to the inflated, pubescent, seed-filled, and somewhat didymous fruits), the 'West Silver bladderpod."
