A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
Scrobiculus,-i (s.m.II, dim. of scrobis): a little ditch or trench; small pit or depression (i.e. on the ground or under water);

- [algae] Hab. ad saxa et in scrobiculis aqua vix superfusis, in caepites minutos collecta, it dwells on stones and in small depressions scarcely poured over by water, gathered together in minute clumps.

- [algae] Hab. in scrobiculis parum profundis, unda saepe superfusis soleque maxime expositis utriusque maris (Agardh), in rather deep trenches, often inundated by the tide and exposed to the maximum sun of both seas.

- [algae] Hab. ad littora sinuum et scrobiculorum in utroque mari (Agardh), it grows on the shores of the bays and waterways in either sea.

- [algae] in scrobiculis (cum Cystoseira abrotanifolia var.) Rytiphleoea tinctoria saepe adest (Agardh), Rytiphloeoea tinctoria (with Cystoseria abrotanifolia var.) is often present in depressions [ditches0.

- [algae] in scrobiculis planioribus ut ad saxa sinuum minorum in Mediterraneo rarius (Agardh), more rarely in the flatter depressions as on the stones of the lesser bays in the Mediterranean.

- rhachis scrobiculis calyces fructigeros foventibus insculpta, rachis sculptured with pits holding tightly the fruiting calyces (Stearn).
