A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
Scheda,-ae (s.f.I), abl.sg. scheda; schedula,-ae (s.f.I), abl.sg. schedula: sheet of paper, hence (herbarium)‘label,’ also called 'ticket' primarily for the especially published labels in booklets that accompany taxonomic collections of specimens (exsiccatae) [> L. scheda,-ae (s.f.I) 'a strip of papyrus back; a leaf of paper;' [as schida,-ae (s.f.I “one of the strips forming a papyrus sheet; (as the smallest available piece of writing-paper” (Glare)]; cf. Gk. schida; cf. schidia,-ae (s.f.I) “a fragment of wood, chip, splinter” (Glare); Gk. schidion]; see paper;

- in scheda, on a herbarium label. In some contexts the taxonomic name is derived from a label, not a publication.

- schedae ad floram exsiccatam Austro-Hungaricam, labels to the dried Austro-Hungarian flora, i.e. to dried specimens of the Austro-Hungarian flora (Stearn).

- ex herbariis et schedis Candollianis propriisque digestum a J. E. Duby, arranged by J. E. Duby from the Candollian herbaria and labels and from his own.

- fructus a nobis non visus, ex scheda Motleyana magnitudine ovi cygnei (B&H), the fruit by us not seen, according to Motley’s label with the magnitude of a swan’s egg.

- [Bryum cinclidioides Blytt; moss] (in schedulis!); dioicum; elongatum parce ramosum, [sc. the description] from labels [!= I have seen it], dioicous, elongate, sparingly branched.

- [Bryum bimum] = Bryum hybridum Bruch in schedulis (C. Muell.), = Bryum hybridum Bruch on labels.

- [Encalypta vulgaris; moss synonymy] E. pilifera Fk. in Brid. I. p. 141. — E. obtusifolia ej. et laevigata ej. in Brid. I. p. 766. — E. leptodpn Bruch in schedulis, forma peristomata (C. Muell.), [=] E. pilifera Fk. in Bridel [vol.] I, [page] 141; [=] his E. obtusifolia and his laevigata in Bridel [vol.] I [page] 766; [=] E. leptodon Bruch on labels, a peristomate form. [‘his’ refers to the author, Bridel].

- [Angstroemia squarrosa; moss] Diobelon squarrosum Hmp. in litt. Dicranum squarrosum Starcke in litt. ad Schrader! ut ex ejus schedulis in Hb. Reg. Berol. elucet Schrad. in Bot. Journ. V. p. 68. (C. Muell.), [=] Diobelons quarrosum Hampe in correspondence = Dicranum squarrosum Starcke in a letter to Schrader [! which I have seen] [UT...Schrader clarifies from his labels in the Royal Herbarium of Berlin.
