sagittatus,-a,-um (adj.A), sagittiformis,-e (adj.B), sagittalis,-e (adj.A): sagittate, barbed; “gradually enlarged at the base into two acute straight lobes, like the head of an arrow; as the leaf of Rumex Acetosella” (Lindley); “shaped like an arrow-head, the basal lobes directed downward or backward” (Fernald 1950); shaped like an arrow-head with two equal sharp basal lobes directed downwards (Stearn); see ‘barbed;’

NOTE: hastate, shaped like an arrow but with the basal lobes pointing outward at wide angles; see hastatus,-a,-um (adj.A);

- folia radicalia sagittata, appendicibus sursum erectis (DeCandolle), basal leaves sagittate, with the appendices upwardly erect.

- [Caltha sagittata] foliis sagittatis auriculatis sursum inflexis (DeCandolle), with the leaves sagittate, auriculate, upwardly inflexed.
