A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
sabulosus,-a,-um (adj.A): full of gravel, sandy, full of sand; “growing in sandy places” (Lindley); syn. = sabulinus,-a,-um (adj.A), “dwelling on sand” (Jackson) [> L. sabulo,-onis (s.f.III), coarse sand]; see glarea,-ae (s.f.I), ‘gravel;’

- in sabulosis [sc. locis], in (coarse) sand or gravelly [places].

- lutum sabulosum (adj.A), abl. sg. luto sabuloso, a mud full of coarse sand.

- in arvis sabulosis oleraceisque Europae (DeCandolle), in the sandy and weedy fields of Europe.

- incolit campos sabulosos aridos Jamaicas (Swartz), it inhabits gravelly, dry plains of Jamaica.

- lapidoso sabulosis, praesertim verticaliter septentrionem spectantibus locis crescere amat iste muscus (Hedw.), this moss loves to grow especially vertically northern looking [i.e. ‘faciing’] in stoney-gravelly places.

- oritur in sabulosis lapidosis descensus montis Capoulaàou dicii haud longe a Monspelio, ascendit in monte proximo elatiorique Sérane atque in planitie montium nonnullorum Cebennensium, it arises in gravelly, stony [places] of the descent of the mountain called Capouladou not far from Monspelio, rising up in the nearest and higher mountain Sérane and also in the plain of several mountains of Cebennensis.

- [Weisia recurvirostra; moss] gregatim in locis lapidoso-sabulosis, tenui gramine stipatis arctissimo in consortio degere amat (Hedw.), in stoney-gravelly places, it loves to live gregariously [i.e. in clusters or groups] crowded in the closest association with a thin grass.

- [algae] in sinubus majoribus magis tranquillis soleque expositis, saepe sabulosis et parum profundis, praecipue obveniunt Zoospermeae, ob lucem intensiorem colore viridi fere semper indutae (Agardh), Zoospermeae especially occur in the larger, more peaceful bays, and are exposed to the sun, often coarsely sandy and rather deep, almost always clothed with a green color due to the more intense light.

- [algae] Hab. in mari Mediterraneo, ut videtur, profundiori ad saxà littoris sabulosi (Agardh), it grows in the Mediterranean sea, apparently, deeper on the stones of a coarsely sandy shore.

- [Florideae; algae] plurimae rupicolae aut in vicinia rupium aliis parasitae, paucae in sabulosis, paucissimae in limosis et mari stagnanti degunt (Agardh), many live on rocks or in the vicinity of rocks, parasitic on others, a few in gravelly places, a very few live in silty ones and in a stagnant [i.e. static, with little flow] sea.
