A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
Residue: reliquiae,-arum (pl.f.I), abl.sg. reliquiis; residuum,-i (s.n.II), abl.sg. residuo, the remainder, residue, rest. Reliquiae has been used of sets of specimens distributed from collections of a collector at his or her death; reliquum,-i (s.n.II), abl. sg. reliquo, the rest, the remainder; see remnant; see trace;

- collo in speciminibus vetustioribus residuis vaginarum subfibrosis comato, with the collar (neck) in the older specimens by the almost fibrous remains of the sheath clothed as if with hair.

- caudex apice reliquis foliorum emortuorum marcidis laceratis brunneis involucratus, root-stock at the tip with the withered tattered brown remains of dead leaves wrapped (Stearn).

- residuum septi evanescentis furcatum (F. Mueller), the residue of the evanescent septum forked.

- (algae) ramos residuis spinarum frondis undique et densissime muriculatos (Agardh), the branches very densely muriculate with the remnants of the spines everywhere on the frond.

- (algae) caulibus ubique residuo ramulorum hirtis (Agardh), with the stems everywhere shaggy with the residue of the branchlets.

- caulis sive rhizoma fastigiato-ramosum, residuis stipularum uberrime squamatum (F. Mueller), the stem or rhizome fastigiate-branched, with the residue of the stipules richly scaled.

- (algae) hinc ad basin foliolorum prolificantium residua nonduni transformata nematheciorum observantur et organa formant, quae a Greville ut nemathecia generis descripta fueruut (Agardh), hence at the base of the proliferating leaflets the residue of the not yet transformed nemathecia are observed and the organs formed which by Greville had been described as the nemathecia of the genus.
