A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
reniformis,-e (adj.B), (obsol.) renarius,-a,-um (adj.A): kidney-shaped, “resembling the figure of a kidney; that is to say, crescent-shaped, with the ends rounded, as the leaf of Asarum europaeum” (Lindley); see kidney-shaped; see kidney;

- semina cochleato-reniformia v. spiralia, pilis longis cincta v. undique longe lanata (B&H) seeds coiled-reniform or spiralled, girdled with long hairs or in every part wooly. [Cochlospermum].

- semina in quoque loculo plurima reniformia in pulpa pellucida glutinosa nidulantia (F.Mueller), very many seeds in each locule kidney-shaped, nesting in a glutinous transparent pulp.

- antheae• minimae,subrotundae, reniformes. (Swartz), the anthers very small, nearly round, reniform.

- involucellis reniformibus vel subrhombeis aliquando subtrilobis (Boissier), the involucels kidney-shaped or almost rhombic [i.e. diamond-shaped], sometimes almost 3-lobed.

obcordato-reniformis,-e (adj.B): reversely heart-shaped, reversed heart-shaped with deep sinus remote from attachment to reniform, i.e. crescent-shaped, with the ends rounded;

- vexillum obcordato-reniforme,luteum, prope medium sanguineo-signatum (F. Mueller), the vexillum obcordate-kidney-shaped, yellow, near the middle blood-red-marked.

reniformi-cordatus,-a,-um (adj.A): “both kidney-shaped and heart-shaped combined” (Lindley); cordate, when joined by a hyphen to another word, signifies a figure between the two, as cordate-rcniform, a figure between heart-shaped and kidney-shaped (Paxton);

- foliis radicalibus subcordato reniformibus sublobatis (DeCandolle), with the basal leaves nearly cordate, kidney-shaped, almosted lobed.

- foliis cordato-reniformibus crenatis sinu obtusis (DeCandolle), with the leaves heart-shaped-kidney-shaped, crenate, obtuse in the sinus.

-semina in quoque loculo plurima reniformia in pulpa pellucida glutinosa nidulantia (DeCandolle), seeds many in each locule, kidney-shaped, nesting in a transparent glutinous pulp.
