A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
Ramulus,-i (s.m.II), abl.sg. ramulo: the smaller divisions of a much-branched plant; branchlet, q.v.; “a twig; a small branch; the least which a plant produces” (Lindley); (in bryology) “branchlet, smallest division of much-branched plant” (Magill 1990); cf. ramusculum,-i (s.n.II);

- ramulis teretibus (non angulatis), with branchlets round (not angled).

- frutex, ramis crebre verticillatis; ramulis sarmentaceis (B&H), a shrub, with branches closely verticillate, with the branchlets full of small branches.

- arbuscula graveolens, ligno flavo, ramulis puberulis (B&H), a strong-smelling small tree, with yellow wood, with the branchlets downy.

- frútices, ramulis et inflorescentia stellatim pubescentibus (B&H), shrubs, with branchlets and inflorescence stellately pubescent.

- folia ramulorum juniorum parva, linearía, cano-tomentosa (B&H), leaves of the younger branchlets small, linear, grayed-white-tomentose.

- ramulis divaricatis, with the branchlets widely divergent.

- frutices v. arbores glabrae, ramulis lenticellis notatis (B&H), glabrous shrubs or trees, with the branchlets marked with lenticels.

- folia in speciebus nonnullis saepe ad apices ramulorum subverticillata (B&H), leaves in some species often at the apices of the branchlets somethat verticillate.

- frútices scandentes, glabri, ramulis unciferis (B&H), climbing shrubs, glabrous, with the branchlets bearing hooks [or barbs].

- stylus crassissimus ab auctore pro ovarii parte describitur, et ramuli ejus breves pro stylis distinctis (B&H), the style very thick, by the author in part described for the ovary, and the short branchlets of it for separate [distinct] styles.
