A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
pyrinus,-a,-um (adj.A): resembling, of or relating to pears (Pyrus);

- [fungi] Xyloma fagineum. Praeter folia faginea, quae copiose colit, in pyrinis quoque sylvestribus rarius lectum (S&A), besides Beech leaves, which it abundantly grows on, more rarely collected on wild pear [sc. leaves] also.

- rarissimum in foliis pyrinis sylvestribus (S&A), very rare on wild pear leaves.

[fungus] Sclerotium varium var. pyrinum

- in fructibus pyrinis putribus parasitica (S&A), [the variety] parasitic on pear fruit.

- [fungus] Erynium pyrinum] Rarissimum item unica solum vice inventum in pomario domestico ad folia Pyri Mali (S&A), very rare, likewise encountered only a single time in a household orchard on the leaves of Pyrus Malus.

NOTE: words beginning with the Gk. prefix pyr- relate to fire, e.g. pyrius,-a,-um (adj.A).
