A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
pullus,-a,-um (adj.A): pullous, very dark, blackish, dark-colored, blackish-gray, dusky, blackish; “black or nearly black” (Jackson); cf. pullatus,-a,-um (adj.A), clothed in black, i.e. dark gray;

- [moss] theca in pedunculo terminali erecto longiusculo ex ovato cylindrica erecta fusco-pulla (Mueller), theca on an erect, rather long terminal peduncle [i.e. seta], rom ovate cylindric, erect, blackish-brown to blackish-gray.

- [algae] species autem Dilleniana ochracea est, fusca, pulla vel interdum viridis, quae notae in nostram sane non cadunt (agardh), however, the Dillenian species is ochraceous, blackish-brown, blackish-gray or sometimes green, which characteristics do not perceptibly occur in our [sc. species].

- [fungus] Octospora bulbosa; trunco e bulbosa basi gracili, elongato; patella rotundata, exterius albo punctata, cavitate pulla, terminato (Hedwig), with a slender trunk [i.e. thallus] from a bulbose base; terminated with a rounded patella [apothecium], the exterior dotted with white, with a blackish-gray cavity [i.e. perithecium].

- color externe utriusque castaneus; elongationis albo-nebulosa litura, patellae, punctis albis adspersus; concavitatis pullus, quasi holosericeus. (Hedwig), the color externally on both sides is chestnut-brown; the diffuse spots of the elongation, whitish-cloudy; [the color of ]the patella [i.e. apothecium] sprinkled with white dots; [the color] of the concavity blackish-gray, as if of velvet.

(fungus) Amanita pullus; Monilia pulla,(fungus)
Pullus,-i (s.m.II), abl. sg. pullo: the young of an animal, esp. of a horse or ass, a foal; a young domestic fowl, a chicken, pullet; “a piece of new growth in a plant, shoot, sprout” (Glare); see chicken;

a young animal; (of plants) a sprout, young twig

- pullus equinus (adj.A), a young horse, a foal.

- pullus (s.m.II) gallinaceus, the young of a fowl or hen, a chick.
